OpinionUP holds regular debates on current events and trending topics of interest every Tuesday at 8PM EST. Debate winners are selected by their fellow debate participants. The winner of this week’s debate “Video Games & Controversy” is @makhnovia!
1. What’s your favorite topic to debate?
My favorite topic to debate is political economics such as capitalism, socialism, etc. I personally am economically left wing and I enjoy having discourse with people throughout the spectrum.
2. Who was your favorite president?
Abraham Lincoln is my favorite president. Besides sharing a birthday with him, I also admire his efforts to sustain the Union and the pursuit of civil rights. I also believe that he was ahead of his time as he tended to adhere to progressive economic theory which no other president has really looked at yet.
3. What is your biggest life goal?
To ultimately be happy. I’m not sure exactly by what means, but if I am pleased with how things are I will be fulfilled.
4. What’s your favorite book?
Les Miserables. Though it’s a long read it’s a great story with a multitude of characters each having a significant impact on the work. It brings criticism to the punitive justice system as well as the dehumanizing of impoverished citizens.
5. Where’s your home base?
I’ve lived in a lot of states, but I’m mainly from Connecticut. However I was born as a Rhode Islander and I’m studying in Philadelphia.
6. If you could travel to anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Central Europe. I don’t have any particular reason it just seems appealing to visit there.
7. What’s your favorite quote?
“Last words are for fools who haven’t said enough.” This quote shows us to make the most out of the short life that we all live.
8. What do you like to do in your free time?
I’m an athlete and chess player. I compete as a swimmer and am training to be a track athlete, and I’m trying to break into competitive chess. I’ve been a swimmer for many years and have competed nationally, and chess is something I just recently picked up which I enjoy.
9. Would you rather have a billion dollars or be president?
I would rather be president. Yes, having a billion dollars would be nice but I would ultimately rather be remembered having the title of president than an unnecessary amount of wealth.
10. What would you change about yourself if you could?
I wish I was brighter and taller. I think most people share the same desire.
